Massage and Energy Services

An East West Therapeutic Bodywork session will be unique to each client

The combination of Eastern and Western approaches allows me to find the root of the problem and to treat the symptoms. I gain an understanding of the clients’ physical and energetic disharmonies by drawing from my knowledge in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western sciences. I integrate the most appropriate modalities into a session to suit each client’s specific needs.

In an East West session the client may be fully clothed or be asked to undress to a level that allows me to work with lotion on a specific body part. Clients will undress in private, lay on a massage table and cover themselves with a sheet. East West sessions are excellent for chronic pain, conditions that are difficult to heal and injury recovery. East West sessions restore balance and harmony in the mind, body and spirit.

Shiatsu is a Japanese form of therapeutic bodywork. The word Shiatsu means "finger pressure”.  Shiatsu uses manual techniques to access Qi (pronounced “Chee”) in the body. Qi is the vital energy in our body that underlies all functioning. People feel good when there is abundant Qi in the meridians. If the Qi becomes blocked in any of the channels, illness or disease can result. I use several techniques including pressure, kneading, correcting, shaking, exercising, vibrating and tapping. All of the techniques are performed on the meridian lines and vital points based in Traditional Chinese Medicine. When these points are stimulated, they balance Qi.

Shiatsu is performed with the client fully clothed and does not involve the use of oils. I start with an evaluation to determine the imbalance that is present. I plan a session that will provide the most therapeutic benefit based on your needs. Shiatsu improves many conditions including stress, chronic pain, headaches, insomnia, shoulder and neck pain, sports injuries, arthritis, depression, menopause symptoms, back problems, fatigue, digestion imbalance and maintaining good health.

Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic Massage is designed to treat specific conditions such as acute or chronic pain management and limited range of motion. The techniques are more precise, therapeutic, and deeper than Swedish massage strokes. I use Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Release and Cross Fiber Friction as the foundation for my style of therapeutic bodywork. Clients are active in the treatment process providing feedback to guide the session. Clients undress to their comfort level. Lotion may be applied depending on the techniques used in the session.

I draw from my in depth western science based training in kinesiology, anatomy, physiology and pathology to create a session unique to each client.  Therapeutic massage helps many conditions including pain relief and increased flexibility. It can speed recovery from auto, work and sports injuries. Therapeutic massage can also help with symptoms of repetitive use syndrome, fibromyalgia, tennis elbow, ligament injury, tendonitis, and joint pain including low back, neck and jaw. Headaches, sinus pain and dizziness can also be relieved. This massage is the perfect combination of light and deep techniques. Designed to relieve sore, tight muscle and releases toxins stored deep within the body.

Energy Therapy

There are two types of energy therapies, both of which involve the use of energy fields. Bio-field therapies are used to affect energy fields in and around the human body. Bio-electromagnetic-based therapies use electromagnetic fields to affect the body, such as those from magnets or electrical current. Energy Therapies offered at HWC are Acupressure, Healing Touch, Reiki, and Therapeutic touch.

Reiki is an effective and specific form of energy healing in which hands are placed just off the body or lightly touching the body. The word Reiki means spiritually guided life force energy. I channel Universal Life Energy into clients to activate the natural healing process. If one’s life force energy is low they are more likely to feel sick and get stressed. When the energy is flowing there is harmony and balance within us and we feel a sense of well-being. Reiki restores physical and emotional balance.
Clients are fully clothed and usually lay on a table. I put my hands in positions on or near your body. There is no massage or manipulation. The whole person is treated rather than a specific area. Reiki is a safe method of healing that anyone can experience.  Clients may feel sensations during the Reiki treatment such as tingling, heat, seeing colors. Some clients may have an emotional response. The benefits of Reiki include deep relaxation, a calm peaceful sense of well-being, pain management, reduce anxiety and depression, improve sleep, heightened awareness, stimulate immune system and improve digestion. Receiving Reiki is a very soothing and relaxing experience.

Healing Touch Energy Therapy

Healing Touch is an energy therapy in which I consciously use my hands in a heart-centered and intentional way to support and facilitate physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health.

Healing Touch is a bio-field (magnetic field around the body) therapy that is an energy-based approach to health and healing.

Healing Touch uses the gift of touch to influence the human energy system, specifically the energy field that surrounds the body, and the energy centers that control the flow from the energy field to the physical body.

These non-invasive techniques employ the hands to clear, energize, and balance the human and environmental energy fields, thus affecting physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. It is based on a heart-centered, caring relationship in which myself and client come together energetically to facilitate the client's health and healing.

The goal of Healing Touch is to restore balance and harmony in the energy system, placing the client in a position to self-heal.

Other Forms of Therapy

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage uses a variety of techniques designed to relax muscles by applying firm but gentle pressure. I generally use lotion to facilitate making long, smooth strokes over the body. Swedish techniques include effleurage, petrissage, friction, tapotement and vibration. These strokes increase the oxygen flow in the blood, increase blood and lymph circulation, stimulate nerve endings and eliminate metabolic waste. Swedish massage is an excellent way to help rid the body of tension and achieve a sense of overall well-being.

Clients undress to their level of comfort in private. The client then lies on a massage table and covers them-self with a sheet. During the massage, I uncover only the body part that I am working on. The many benefits of a Swedish massage include muscle tension relief, easing chronic pain, reducing edema, releasing myofascial, breaking down muscle adhesions in old injuries, reducing fatigue and stress, enhancing sleep quality, improving concentration, decreasing anxiety, reducing blood pressure, helping with depression, improving range of motion, relieving tension related headaches and enhancing the immune system. Swedish massage improves the symptoms from fibromyalgia, arthritis, diabetes and migraine headaches.

Craniosacral Therapy

CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.

Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.

By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including: Migraine Headaches, Chronic Neck and Back Pain, Motor-Coordination Impairments, Colic, Autism, Central Nervous System Disorders, Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries, Scoliosis, Infantile Disorders, Learning Disabilities, Chronic Fatigue, and many more.

Myofascial Release / Connective Tissue

Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. A low load (gentle pressure) applied slowly will allow a viscoelastic medium (fascia) to elongate.

Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.)

Each session is performed directly on skin without oils, creams or machinery. This enables the therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia. This technique is used to release tension in the connective tissue in the body, effective treatment for fibromyalgia.

Lymph Drainage Therapy (LDT)

Lymph Drainage Therapy (LDT) is a very light touch modality that uses light, rhythmic strokes and light pumping motions toward the heart to support and assist the natural flow of the lymphatic system through its primary channels to detoxify the body. Is used to help increase lymph flow to aid in the bodies’ removal of harmful substances from the tissues and increases immune function, using this detoxification process promotes a stronger, healthier immune system. LDT is beneficial in helping to reduce inflammation caused by surgeries, injuries, chemotherapy treatments and bruising.
